Holdem Minibets: Real Poker, Smaller Pots

A minibet is the smallest legal raise allowed in a hand — typically equal to the big blind. At minibet tables the minimum raise size is kept at this floor deliberately to keep pots accessible.

When you have put in enough chips that folding would cost more than calling the remaining bet, you are pot-committed. It is a decision point, not a rule — but it shapes how you play the river.

The big blind is the forced bet posted by the player two seats left of the dealer. At minibet tables this amount sets the minimum raise size for that hand across all betting streets.

Checking to your opponent and then raising after they bet is a check-raise. It is a legal move in standard Hold'em and a common way to build a pot when you hold a strong hand.

When one player is all-in and others keep betting, the extra chips form a side pot. The all-in player can only win the main pot; the side pot is contested by the remaining active players.
